Super Simple Tips to Avoid Holiday Overeating

Gingerbread cookie

My top three super simple tips to avoid holiday overeating.

1. The three Fs: friends, family, and food.  Focus on the first two and you will do great.  Try to position yourself away from the food table and kitchen while at parties.  Be a trendsetter by actually getting people to gather in the living room and not the kitchen.  Your friends and family will thank you for it!

2. Your favorite things.  What are they?  Take a moment to think about it.  For me, gingerbread is at the top of the list, so that is what I will enjoy during the holidays.  What can I easily walk away from?  Decorated sugar cookies.  Yet, in years past, I’ve found myself eating them just because they were there.  Being mindful about what you really love will help you enjoy treats with gusto and easily leave behind what doesn’t make your taste buds smile.

3. Have some faith.  Some people use the term willpower, but for me, that implies that I have to work against something and therefore has a negative connotation.  Maybe all you need is a little faith that you will make good decision for your body, your mind, and your soul.  Try it, you just might surprise yourself.

Cheers to you!
